Channel 4 TV Series

During the summer of 2017, Paul was honoured to be asked by a Channel 4 TV production company to represent his profession and feature as an expert consultant to show the benefits of Osteopathy in the management of chronic low back pain.

Chronic Low Back Pain was chosen as a topic for the programme because it is a surprisingly common and long standing condition for many patients, who sometimes have to manage their pain over many years and which is often notoriously difficult to treat.

The programme aired at 8.00pm on Wednesday 1st August 2018, and was the third part of a new short series of health related programmes called 'Live Well for Longer'.  They featured the forever popular and never far from our TV screens, presenter Kate Quilton and ‘TV Doctor’ anaesthetist, Dr Tamal Ray.

The programme set out to compare Osteopathy, Physiotherapy and Yoga as potential treatment choices.  Each practitioner was given a small number of long suffering participants to help over eight weeks.  Reassuringly, all three options showed really significant benefits, collaborating the research based evidence. Paul and Osteopathy were especially proud to pick up 'Gold' and 'Silver' for the most improved patients with 75% and 70% relief in their pain!

(*) (NICE -  National Institute for Clinical Excellence guidelines - July 2017, recommend an approach consisting of manual/physical therapy with exercise)

Much of the filming was done here in our Kings Langley clinic.
